Bill and Nancy Beard enjoyed four species that no one else did over the weekend. Technical difficulties delayed the reports until today, but we eclipsed 180 after all! Stilt Sandpiper (THANK GOODNESS), Willet, Hudsonia Godwit (THANK GOODNESS), and Least Tern were all great additions! Thanks Beards!! I also accidentally submitted Paul's report of Mourning Warbler as a Kentucky Warbler, which did not make my editing. Thus, the Mourning Warbler never made the previous list until now. 183! WOW!

I wish i had a good birder with me. We just saw a silent waterthrush. I think la, but never seen a nrthn. Weve become too cocky to carry a field guide around.... Errr!

REPORTED- Lesser Scaup in Maize, Mourning and Wilsons Warblers at Oak Park.

Eberles had Magnolia Warbler at Riley Park and PB Grebe on neighborhood pond. Going to close a fun weekend off in the backyard.

Number is starting to level off. Both Grosbeaks and a Scarlet Tanager are nice. Still some time, so get out and enjoy spring!

Friday - 10 PM

Friday was a great day of birding in Sedgwick County. We are at 134 species already! There are a lot of glaring misses including Great Horned Owl, Hairy Woodpecker, and Nashville Warbler. Keep the reports coming! We're not only hoping to beat the species total from last year, but our participation total as well. That's really what it is all about.

Comeau's feeders held a number of good sparrows and Jones reports an adult Bald Eagle this morning. Calhoun finds a Redhead on the way to take his big final, which is now past and now marks the start of bigtime bird time!

A Northern Cardinal is the first bird recorded for the contest, singing at 5:52 AM in my backyard. We won't be skunked on day one after all! Squarely at one species prior to 6AM on day one. Not bad!

Cuckoos

The head was in a book but the ears perked up when a YB Cuckoo began
clucking moments ago in my Derby backyard. We recorded 0 Cuckoo
species on last year's event, but with reports of Yellow-billeds and
Roadrunners recently, one has to wonder how many members of the Cuckoo
family we will record this weekend. Here's hoping 3!
